The Knowledge Management Process in Industrial Maintenance to Face Staff Turnover and the Need for New Skills

ABSTRACT

THE KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT PROCESS IN INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE TO FACE STAFF TURNOVER AND THE NEED FOR NEW SKILLS

The increasing shortage of technical personnel and rising turnover rates are forcing industrial companies to face the problem of a lack of professional skills, especially in the maintenance area. This is a significant challenge that can affect the productivity, operational efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability of companies in the long term.

In addition, the technological evolution, characterized by an unprecedented rate of change (an example is generative artificial intelligence), raises further significant challenges in maintenance processes, particularly in the management and development of professional skills.

In this speech, we will discuss the strategic importance of developing a robust knowledge management process within organizations that allows them:
• to identify the distinctive and core competencies for the different roles, both technical and managerial, that are aligned with business objectives,
• to map and continuously update skills in line with business needs and technological evolution,
• to motivate and actively engage personnel in developing their skills and knowledge.

We will see how a good knowledge management process can be the key to making an effective investment in training and professional development so as to close the skills gap and promote a stimulating and proactive work environment: this can enable the management and reduction of turnover rates.

In summary, this speech aims to provide professionals with an overview of strategies, methods and tools to address the challenges of ongoing skill growth and research in maintenance processes, by fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptability that matches the demands of a rapidly changing technological age.
